Segerstedt house, Uppsala

Client: Senab
Architect: 3XN/Indicum
Assignment: Delivery of easy chairs, sofas, revolving easy chairs, sofa modules, wall-mounted sofas with panels and sound absorbers, along with leather seating cushions

In 2017 Uppsala University opened its new stronghold, Segerstedthuset, which was named after former rector and member of the Swedish Academy, Torgny Segerstedt. The Danish firm of architects 3XN gave the project the working title ‘The building in the park’. The building is made of natural materials such as stone and wood and is located in an illustrious setting near Uppsala Castle and the University of Uppsala Botanical Garden.

Open lounges provide spaces where people can work privately and undisturbed or talk in groups in sound-absorbing environments. Our easy chairs and padded sofas with high backs create screened-off spaces. We work closely with the designer. Based on Indicum’s drawings we developed an easy chair with a sophisticated revolving function, and a sofa module in the shape of an octagon – a room in a room. We have built padded sofas with backs that integrate with the wall to form a sound-absorbing panel for the lecture halls. The furniture includes power and power sockets. We have also developed wall-mounted sofas for creative meetings and breaks, and we have furnished window embrasures with leather seating cushions.

Collaborating with the architect at an early stage enables us to succeed in terms of both the product and budget
